What is Visit Japan Web?

Visit Japan Web (VJW) is an online service provided by the Japanese government to streamline the entry process. By using this system, you can pre-register your immigration and customs information and generate a QR code for quick and convenient entry at the airport.

How to Register for Visit Japan Web

Before registering, prepare the following:

  • Passport

  • E-ticket information

  • Accommodation details

Step 1: Create an Account

1. Visit the official Visit Japan Web website: https://www.vjw.digital.go.jp/

Note: There is no official Visit Japan Web app. It is only accessible via a web browser.

2. Enter your email address and create a password.

3. Verify your email using the confirmation code sent to your inbox.

4. You only need to create an account once.

Step 2: Register Your User Information

  • Enter your passport details manually or scan your passport.

  • It is recommended to use the photo scan option for accuracy.

  • For contact details in Japan, enter the address and phone number of your first accommodation. If you can’t find the hotel’s phone number, you can enter your personal contact information (including the country code).

Step 3: Register New Planned Entry/Return Schedule

  • Add your travel schedule on the homepage.

  • You need to complete this step for each new trip.

  • Fill out the required information for immigration and customs declaration.

Once completed, the Display QR Code button will be activated.

Using the QR Code for Entry

  • Since January 25, 2024, a single QR code now covers both immigration and customs declarations.

  • Save a screenshot of your QR code before departure in case of poor internet connectivity at the airport.

  • Immigration: There is no separate line for QR code users; you will queue with passengers using paper forms.

  • Customs: Separate lines exist for paper and QR code declarations. If traveling as a family, a single paper declaration is allowed, but each member needs a separate QR code for digital customs declaration. In some cases, using the paper form may be faster.

Is Visit Japan Web Mandatory?

No, it is not required. You can still fill out the paper immigration and customs declaration forms provided on the plane or at the airport. However, using Visit Japan Web can save time and make your arrival process smoother.

If possible, it is highly recommended to complete the registration before your trip for a faster and hassle-free entry.

Have a great trip to Japan!
